PhotoThe speaker at the February 27 Rotary Club of Kirksville meeting was Katy Fine-Newman, executive director of Community Opportunities in Kirksville. Katy said its Sheltered Workshop, one of 86 in Missouri, employs 53 disabled individuals. Services provided at its 1001 S. Osteopathy St. facility include small parts assembly, car detailing, confidential document destruction, and a recycling program which is available to individuals and businesses. She said they pick up at businesses as far away as Edina, La Plata and Lancaster, but individuals must bring their material by their office. They accept paper, books, magazines, glass and aluminum but no plastics. She said those who want to keep the proceeds in Kirksville should use their services rather than curbside pickup. Their hours of operation are M-F, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., however, recycle bins are available around the clock in the back of their facility.
